Invisalign brand of aligner therapy is one of the popular alternatives to traditional braces provided at Kemp and Rice Orthodontics. Invisalign aligners and our own custom-made in our office aligners known as K-Aligners are available for both teens and adults. If you’re interested in Invisalign or in our own custom made K-Aligners to help your smile achieve all the benefits of straighter, healthier-looking teeth, here’s what you should know about Invisalign and K-Aligner treatment.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign and our own K-Aligners use a series of custom-made aligners that are designed to move your teeth into proper alignment. The aligners are designed sort of like the trays used in whitening treatments, but they “hug” the contours of your teeth much more closely. Most patients will wear between 40 and 50 upper and lower sets of aligners during their treatment, and each set is shaped slightly differently. You’ll wear a set of aligners for one to two weeks, and then replace that set with the next set in the series to keep your teeth moving in the right directions. Of course, the treatment for all our patients is unique and special for each patient, so your treatment may take a little longer or even a little shorter time depending on your individual needs.
What are Invisalign aligners made of?
Invisalign aligners are made of a patented plastic material called SmartTrack, K-Aligners are made from a state-of-the-art material created by scientists in Germany called Scheu, pronounced “Show.” in Europe. Both SmartTrack and Scheu help your aligners slide on and off, and these materials also keep the aligners securely in place while they’re being worn. Plus, these special plastic materials enhance the gradual yet consistent pressure on your teeth to help keep them moving toward ideal alignment, resulting in faster treatment times and more predictable results. Both Scheu and SmartTrack are free of BPA, BPS, latex and gluten.
What happens during Invisalign treatment?
Your treatment begins by taking photographs, X-rays, and digital scans to create 3D images of your teeth in either our Franklin, Brentwood, or Spring Hill office. If you decide you want to use Invisalign therapy, then your records will be forwarded to their lab where your aligners will be made. If you decide to wear the custom K-Aligners, all your aligners will be made in one our offices using our state-of-the-art 3D printers under the direct supervision of Dr. Kemp and Dr. Rice. During your treatment, you’ll wear your aligners for about 22 hours each day, visiting our office about once every month or so to make sure your treatment is progressing well.
Is Invisalign better than braces?
Many of our new patients come for their initial exam because they think they prefer Invisalign over our special K-Aligners or our virtually invisible ceramic braces. Some of their reasons include the following:
Invisalign is virtually invisible. The snug, custom fit enhances the discreet design. In fact, Invisalign as well as our clear plastic K-Aligners are almost impossible to detect unless someone is staring directly at your teeth, just like our beautiful aesthetic braces.
Invisalign and K-Aligners are very comfortable. Both Invisalign and our K-Aligners are clear and super smooth, which means the aligners are extremely comfortable. Invisalign and our K-Aligners let you eat what you want. You’ll take your aligners off for meals and snacks, so you can eat all the foods you love.
What can Invisalign treat?
Advances in the design and creation of clear aligners mean that both the Invisalign system and the K-Aligner therapy can be used to treat many orthodontic problems, including overbites, crossbites, underbites, crooked teeth, and spacing issues like gaps between teeth. Invisalign and our custom K-Aligners both offer a special system just for teens to accommodate teeth that haven’t erupted yet. Many Kemp & Rice Orthodontics Invisalign patients choose to finish their Invisalign treatment by wearing braces for just a few weeks to achieve that perfect KRO smile that may not be achievable with Invisalign alone.
Is Invisalign right for me?
Invisalign and our custom K-Aligner therapy treatment program can be a great choice for adults and teens who want to straighten their teeth but who are not ready to commit to braces. As a leading orthodontic practice and a top-ranked Invisalign provider in Brentwood, Franklin, and Spring Hill, Kemp & Rice Orthodontics is dedicated to helping patients get the best orthodontic care based on their needs and their treatment goals.
